This is not picnic, party conference or friendly press briefing. Turkey is in war. And it is your war. Act accordingly. Your place in history is in danger. History may judge you very differently from the clapping, friendly Turkish press. Chances are posterity will hold you responsible for the greatest failure in Republic’s history. Your govt’s complacency reaches to criminal proportions. Leave all the silly sideshows abroad and devote at least half of your time to terrorism, display at least the same degree of toughness, determination and even cruelty you show to your political opponents at home. Ignore those wishy-washy pacifists who don’t know what they are talking about, or worse. Act, not talk. Communicate with PKK thru your actions and not mere words. Go where their camps and leaders are. Kandil must cease to be “a summer camp.” End all the talk of negotiation, amnesty. Time may come for them but not now, when we are weak, PKK is emboldened and feels time and iniatiative is on its side. Introduce death penalty for terrorist acts and submit a proposal for Öcalan’s execution to the Parliament. The roads to defeat are paved with softness, indecision and delay. Don’t turn your other cheek. We may still lose this war, but for God’s sake, at least fight. And after that prepare for an orderly secession on our own terms.
